Sad Farewell

Goodbye Dena (the skinny blonde).
We miss you already but we wish you lots of happiness. Lunch won't be the same without you so we vow never to eat Mexican again.... on Tuesdays......when it's 70 degrees.....
Ok, so, we'll at least think about you while we're there and we'll call you from the restaurant. That counts!
Christmas Hair

I managed to put up my inside Christmas decorations this weekend. (David and I got sick before we could get the outside done and we don't want to put up a live tree this early.) I put up all the usual stuff with only a few modifications to Coey proof everything. The only thing I didn't plan on were the strands of Cohen's hair sprinkled in the mix. Let me explain. I was trying to cut the boy's superfast growing hair but he was not exactly what I would call cooperative. He didn't fight me on it, you. It was really an attitude of if you can catch me, you can cut it. I chased him all over the living room snipping chunks here and there. He would entertain himself with a toy for a moment and I would cut. Then, he'd take off for a toy across the room and I would follow him trying to cut hair along the way. So what if there's a little Cohen hair mixed into my Christmas decor? The important thing is that I got the job done and I actually like his hair cut.

Thanksgiving Chef

Well, what a change of events. I made the desserts I plan to take to Thanksgiving dinner at Aunt Billie's. I usually order them from a caterer, but this year I was brave and took the task of cooking on myself. I made cornbread cakes, keylime squares and brownies. (I'll have to post the recipe for the cornbread cakes. It's easy!) Everything turned out well if I do say so myself. It probably would have been cheaper to order from the caterer because I spent far more at the grocery store than I would have on my desserts. And, it was all a bunch of junk--junk food that is. And, it wasn't even junk food for me. It was junk food for Cohen. Cookies, crackers, cereal bars, turkey sticks, wagon wheels....
Thankgiving was wonderful. It was so nice to have three days off from work, but then again, it was hard to go back. Cohen ate turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans and all kinds of yummy food. Of course, I think he would of liked it more if he hadn't had diarreah. He was on an antibiotic for an ear infection that gave him terrible diarreah and a yeast infection. It was the worst thing we've been through. It was even worse than the pnemonia. We stopped the meds. I called his doctor to see if they wanted to prescribe something else. I still haven't heard back from them. Needless to say, they are no longer his doctors. We'll be trying somewhere new. But, that's a whole other story.
Check out Cohen's first Thanksgiving picture.

Baby Boogies

Why is it that baby noses seem to have no moisture therefore making baby boogies stick like superglue? A gigantic boogie hanging half out of the nose can take a day to chisel loose and pry off. Of course, the removal process is hindered by baby's maniac thrasher mode. This is when baby's head turns and shakes in every direction he can twist it while your hand is battered by his arms and legs which are simontaneously pushing you away from the twisting head. Not only is removing the boogie difficult, but even arriving close enough on the face to attempt removal can be challenging. Anyone with useful strategies to combat this strange baby phenomenon should leave me a comment.
NINE MONTH REPORT
Cohen had his nine month check up on Friday. He weighs 20 lbs. and is 28 inches long, both measurements are in the 50th percentile. We got a great report on Friday and Cohen got the first dose of his flu shot. But, then, dun, dun, dun.........Cohen had a fever all weekend, a high fever of over 103 degrees. We just got him over pnemonia and now he's sick again. We called his doctor over the weekend because the temp. was so high. Doc said a mild fever was a normal reaction to the flu shot, but a fever of over 103 was not normal. He said that if Cohen was eating and drinking well and did not act miserable, we could treat him with Tylenol/Motrin and wait until Monday to take him back to the doc. if he still has the fever. If he stopped eating well, we were to take him to the ER right away. He still has a fever but he has eaten enough that we felt we could wait. We'll see how it goes when Cohen wakes up.

Cohen Crawls....Forward!

It finally happened. When I picked Cohen up from school on Wednesday (Nov. 15th), his teachers said he had been crawling around the room all day! He was already the king of scooting around backwards, but Wednesday he mastered forward movement. He uses his hands, one knee and and a knee/foot combo. Yea! We're in so much trouble now that the boy is mobile.
I took the night off from running. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick back up right where I left off at 12 minutes.
We were lucky this year not to have any major hurricanes our way, but I had a tornado scare today. We had to take cover in our building's center complex today because of the threat of a tornado. Cohen's school did the same thing. Fortunately, we avoided the storm but Columbus County wasn't so lucky.

Eleven Minutes
I started running last night. Believe me, I am no athlete but I'm tired of feeling bad and I'm too young to be this out of shape. Last night, I ran for nine minutes straight. Tonight, I made it for 11 minutes. I plan to increase my workout one minute at a time. I may only make it to 15 before I quit, but I'm going to run with it while it lasts.
Christmas List
Christmas List
I sent Jenn my Christmas list yesterday. She didn't ask for it, but I know she needed my priceless information. It was a short list, too. I would like a pair of sassy new boots with a decent heel. I need some new pants, too. It seems all the ones I own have shrunk. I am not brave enough to list here what size would not shrink on me. Go figure!
David is really in to home improvements this year and would like new tools like a chainsaw and table saw. I am not encouraging anyone to buy these items for him, but these are things he would like to have. However, we all know that the thought of Dave with a chainsaw is scary enough. Actually giving him one is too much to consider. Buy at your own risk. He loves books and he always needs clothes. Some large button downs for work are always great.
Cohen is trying to crawl (forwards) and stand up all at the same time. I have some toy ideas in mind for him, but Jenn has almost convinced me now to raid her storage unit for used toys. Everything I was considering buying is probably in her storage unit. We're still thinking about getting him a swing to hang up on our front porch. We'll see....
Oh, and size 9-12 months is good for Cohen.

Nicholas Sparks

I got a free copy of Nicholas Sparks' latest book, Dear John, and I got it signed!! Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet Mr. Sparks to get his signature. David brought it home to me one day last week. He was doing some work for a member at a radio station where Nicholas Sparks was being interviewed. Dave arrived just after Nicholas Sparks left the station, but the station folks were nice enough to

BABY TALK
Cohen still had a fever this morning so David took him to the doctor. The doc said it was either a viral infection or the start of pnemonia. He started his first antibiotic today. The doctor said his lungs didn't sound clear at all. Poor Coey! Dave stayed home with him today. Tomorrow, we'll split the day. Hopefully, he'll be well soon.
In other baby news, Cohen still has no teeth. He's 81/2 months old now. Where are those things? It doesn't stop him from eating, though. He eats lots of snacks now--wagon wheels, dried fruit, crackers, fruit puffs and diced fruit and veggies. And don't even think about eating in front of him unless you plan to share.
He's still not a sophisticated crawler. His teachers said he was scooting around on his butt at school, but we haven't seen it at home. He's rolls around, crawls backwards and is trying to pull up. I'm pretty sure he's going to take off any day now. He recognizes words. I think his favorite is bath. Asking him if he wants to take a bath is a sure way to win a smile. :)
We still have a lot of "firsts" go go, but we have already had the "first" haircut. Amazingly, he already needs his second. The picture is Cohen after his haircut and the talent that cut it, Mrs. Marianne Vaughn!
FAMILY TALK
Everyone else is doing well. Sebastian seems to be better. That's great news. We have been blessed in every direction. I have lots of Christmas gift ideas for Dave if anybody needs them. I also need some ideas on the names I drew. Hint, hint, Aunt Billie. We're praying for Bill and Popi. Please also pray for our friends Jordan and Patience. Patience is pregnant with a baby boy, yet they already know the baby has a heart defect and will require three open heart surgeries or a heart transplant to survive. The mother-in-law of Dave's sister, Kim, is battling cancer. Please keep her in your prayers as well.
Has everybody ordered their XanGo, yet???
See you all at Thanksgiving. I'm bringing another one of my fantastic desserts that someone else makes.
If Cohen is well, I'll be at mom and dad's this weekend. If I don't see you this weekend, I'll see you then. I'm looking forward to it!
Good night...

Welcome

Welcome to our blog. I hope this will allow us to stay connected with friends and family. David and I have purchased a website, daveandbarb.com, but we have yet to get it going. I hope this site will serve us until daveandbarb debuts. Please leave us your thoughts and comments by posting them below.
Staying connected means everyone wants an update on Baby Cohen. So, let me tell you how he's doing. He's had a fever all weekend. It started Thursday evening and I received a call from Cohen's school on Friday that he had a fever. I picked him up and took him to work with me for a while. He slept for an hour in my office--pretty good for a boy who never naps. I'll just have to take him more often. We've lounged around here all weekend. He's had his ups and downs. Hopefully, he'll be over it by Sunday. That boy is fun even when he's sick!
